At American Black Belt Academy we offer a program for everyone! If you have been yearning for a progressive toning and strengthening workout with the structure and flavor of a formal martial art, our Adult Martial Arts Program is for you.
Martial Arts
We practice a traditional system of martial arts called Kami Bushi Kai, which means “Divine Warrior System”. Kami Bushi Kai combines Japanese Shotokan Karate, Jiu-jitsu and kickboxing into one very flexible system that provides our students with many different ways to deal with a threat.
Shotokan Karate gives us very powerful strikes, kicks and blocks that can disable an opponent with one well-placed shot. Jiu-jitsu allows us to use throws, foot-sweeps, ground attack and escape strategies, chokes and joint locks to subdue an opponent without unnecessarily hurting them. Kickboxing gives us rapid hand combinations, devastating kicks, and footwork that allows us to evade an attack and set our opponent up for the finishing blow.
Our adult students also learn self-defense techniques and weapons training based on our Chief Instructors’ experiences as a member of the US Army Special Forces.
Classes are broken down according to age and ability.

SHOTOKAN KARATE
is a style of karate, developed from various martial arts by Gichin Funakoshi (1868–1957) and his son Yoshitaka Funakoshi (1906–1945). Gichin Funakoshi is widely recognized as having brought karate from Okinawa to mainland Japan. Shōtō ("pine waves") was Funakoshi's pen-name, while kan means "house." Hence, shōtō-kan was the name of the hall where Funakoshi trained his students.
Shotokan is one of the four traditional Japanese karate styles, the others being Gōjū-ryū, Shitō-ryū, and Wadō-ryū. Although it began as a unified karate school that developed into the Japan Karate Association, Shotokan now exists as several independent organizations.
Shotokan training is usually divided into three parts: kihon (basics), kata (forms or patterns of moves), and kumite (sparring). Techniques in kihon and kata are characterized by deep, long stances that provide stability, enable powerful movements, and strengthen the legs. Strength and power are often demonstrated instead of slower, more flowing motions. Kumite techniques mirror these stances and movements at a basic level, but progress to being more flexible with greater experience. Funakoshi reportedly found traditional martial arts (e.g., sumo, jujutsu, and kenjutsu) to be too focused on combat; he emphasised health, breathing, release of energy, and concentrated mind- and body-control
Anyone getting involved in martial arts of any kind assumes they are learning something about self-defense, whether this is their goal or not. Traditional programs address threats of the ancient world and not today's violence. Tournament focused schools dominated by children's programs don't effectively meet the martial arts needs of adult self defense situations.
American Black Belt Academy incorporates a simple, effective, self-defense system that emphasizes instinctive movements, practical techniques, and realistic training scenarios. We provide a specialized self-defense system that is street tested, reality based, and does not rely on size or strength for effectiveness.
This unique self defense training is built around the highly effective fighting concepts of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Military Special Forces Combatives techniques integrated to provide students with consistently reliable options for dealing with situational confrontations.
Whether you're a small woman, a police officer or business owner that leaves work late at night? We teach the most effective real-world confrontation techniques possible. The techniques of Jiu-jitsu provide this aspect to our martial arts training program .
We're ready to prepare you for society's unique threats of today !!
KICK-BOXING
is a style of sport-fighting using kicks and punches and sometimes throws. It can be practiced for general fitness, or as a full-contact sport. In the full contact version of the sport sometimes practiced as an independent style, but in many cases kickboxing is just an event and set of rules of by which martial artists of other styles may compete openly. Typically kickboxing in many competitions is a standing fight sport and does not allow continuation of the fight once the fight has reached the ground, however some styles may still train in this component and so must be adapted for kickboxing tournaments as well as many Japanese martial arts.
Thai Boxing is the Thai name for a form of hard martial art practiced in several Southeast Asian countries including Thailand. Called "The Art of Eight Limbs", for it's extensive employment of the hands, shins, elbows, and knees to execute strikes using eight "points of contact," as opposed to "two points" (fists) in Western boxing and "four points" (fists, feet) used in the primarily sport-oriented forms of martial arts.
Kick boxing integrates punches, kicks, knee and elbow strikes coupled with progressive physical conditioning to develop effective self defense skills while helping the student lose weight, build muscle and transform their body. Additionally, each class is designed to challenge the student’s cardiovascular fitness and raise their level of conditioning.
