2003 NEWSLETTER

LOOK WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT SOCAA TRAINING !!!

I began learning combatives from MSG McElwee over a year and a half ago when he offered a beginner course to Army ROTC cadets. Since then I've had the chance to complete basic and intermediate combatives as well as act as an assistant for other new members. As a female, I've had to focus on technique in order to compensate when fighting stronger opponents. I love combatives because it's exciting, fun, and very challenging. I feel like I'm training in an area that would help me in a real situation rather than only in a ring or on a mat. MSG McElwee is an extremely good instructor and I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want to learn self- defense.

I have been training with MSG Randy McElwee, the director of SOCAA, for more than 1 1/2 years now.  My experience with learning the various aspects of special operations combatives has been very fulfilling. My overall confidence, especially in being able to defend myself, has skyrocketed. I have been inspired by witnessing MSG McElwee's sincere concern for the safety of all innocent victims of attacks, most importantly women and the potential of rape. MSG McElwee utilizes a unique approach to teaching that I have seen a variety of audiences pick up on with ease.  I have also assisted in several weekend seminars for college students living in dorms on campus who have been concerned with issues of safety.  In addition, Sgt. McElwee arranged for me to get certified as an army combatives instructor myself which will allow me to continue with combatives throughout my military career. I would recommend combatives training to anyone who is serious about defending themselves in the real world against real attacks. This isn't the unrealistic nonsense that you see in the movies or on tv
